About this position  
The Africa Energy Transition Fellow will support LSM’s commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions and promoting a just transition across Africa. Working closely with the Africa Programs Manager, the fellow will conduct research, build partnerships, and develop community-led initiatives that align with LSM’s mission of climate and ecological justice. This position involves engaging local stakeholders, organizing training programs, and advocating for policies that prioritize renewable energy. The fellow will play an instrumental role in developing impactful projects that empower communities and support LSM’s mission in the African context.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and implement community-focused renewable energy advocacy tools, promoting just transition principles.

  • Facilitate workshops and training programs to build capacity and awareness of energy transition issues.

  • Engage with local stakeholders, including faith leaders, community organizations, and governments, to promote LSM’s energy initiatives.

  • Advocate for policy changes that support renewable energy development and equitable energy transitions.

  • Create communication materials and outreach content to raise awareness of renewable energy and just transition initiatives.

  • Represent LSM at conferences, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.

  • Develop metrics and reports to evaluate the impact of projects and initiatives.

  • Collaborate with LSM teams to align energy transition efforts with the organization’s overall goals. 

Qualification

Essential

  • Studies in Environmental Science, Energy Studies, Climate / Energy Policy, Development studies.

  • Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Endorses and embodies LSM values and the Laudato Si’ paradigm in behavior and words; comfortable supporting and working in a faith-based environment. 

  • Experience with community engagement, especially in the African context.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with just transition policy frameworks and renewable energy solutions in the African region.

  • Experience in advocacy and policy engagement.

  • Strong understanding of the regional cultural and linguistic nuances.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a global team structure.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Digital skills for project management and communications.

Languages

  • Essential: English

  • Desirable: Proficiency in French or other African languages


Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with experience.


Hours: 20 hours per week


Location: Kenya, DRC, South Africa


Type: Part-time position


Start Date: As soon as possible
