Board Treasurer (Remote)

Work Type: Volunteer

Are you willing to share your gifts at the service of our common home? Do you share Pope Francis' deep concern for the future of the planet? The Laudato Si’ Movement is looking for talented and mission-aligned leaders who share Pope Francis' vision in Laudato Sì to join its international Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors provides strategic, legal, fiduciary, and ethical oversight to LSM in pursuit of its mission of inspiring and mobilizing the Catholic community for ecological and climate justice in collaboration with all people of goodwill. This is an opportunity to play a critical role in this thriving movement engaging tens of thousands of people worldwide in bringing Laudato Si’ to life.

Candidates for the Board Treasurer would ideally be based in the US due to LSM’s legal registration in the US. However candidates outside of the US with experience with US accounting will also be considered.

In accordance with organizational bylaws, the Treasurer is primarily responsible for the due oversight of LSM's finances. In addition to the board member-at large responsibilities (see here), the Board Treasurer has the following responsibilities:

  • Have due oversight of the financial planning, procurement, and investment of funds
  • Have due oversight of receipts, disbursements, banking, protection and custody of funds, securities, and financial  instruments
  • Have due oversight of forecasting for future financial decisions and positions
  • Review and interpret financial reports
  • Have due oversight of insurance coverage
  • Have due oversight of banking relationships
  • Serve as the chair of the finance committee
  • Work with the Director of Finance and the Executive Director to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the board on a timely basis
  • Present the annual budget to the board for approval
  • Oversee the annual audit

Board meetings are held bi-monthly on Zoom along with an annual in-person meeting. Meetings are held in English and thus require proficiency in English in both written and verbal form.

This is a non-executive volunteer role. See the current Board of Directors here.
