About this position

The Climate Finance Campaign Manager has the mission to develop and implement campaigns aiming at leveraging Catholics’ finances in phasing out fossil fuels. Their main actions are focused on developing resources and assisting in-country and regional colleagues in their local strategizing and implementation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the implementation of the advocacy strategy of LSM on finance and divestment in the United States, EU, and Canada. 
  • Develop the finance and divestment campaign plan in preferable geographical locations in alignment with LSM’s advocacy strategy of LSM on divestment in key locations of the Global North, and participate in the planning of international events such as the Global Days of Action and the relevant political context.
  • Develop locally relevant framing and messaging, with help from the Director of Advocacy.
  • Develop the Catholic grassroots recruitment and mobilization plans in line with the ongoing finance and divestment campaign plan together with the Director of Advocacy.
  • Lead the implementation of the campaign plan and organize mass events in support of the finance and divestment campaign in target locations.
  • Coordinate and manage logistical support for campaign activities as required, including information gathering, partners’ engagement, meeting facilitation, training, and coaching campaign staff & volunteers.
  • Participate in the development and roll-out of campaigner toolkits and training and lead on those training in key locations.
  • Work with Catholic Universities, Church institutions, LSM members, and other stakeholders to promote and facilitate commitments to divest from fossil fuels.
  • Support regional and national teams to lobby government and finance institutions such as banks to not finance fossil fuels.
  • Facilitate the European Advocacy Advisory Group.
  • Coordinate divestment advances with other institutions.
  • Public speaking and media work.
  • Evaluation and reporting.

Skills and Characteristics
  • BSc or MASc.  in Environmental Sciences, Law, Political economy, Theology.
  • 3 to 5 years experience in a campaigning role, preferably climate finance/fossil fuels-related issues.
  • 3 to 5 years experience in Catholic organizations or working with faith-based actors.
  • Excellent knowledge on the science of climate change, its mitigation and relevant actors.
  • Sound understanding of the imperatives of ending fossil fuel exploration and expansion and supply side campaigns. Understanding of the structure and relations within the Catholic Church institutions and a good knowledge of the papal encyclical “Laudato Si’”.
  • Deep understanding of the details of the fossil fuel industry.
  • Development of campaigner tools.
  • Climate change, fossil fuels, and the energy transition, finance drivers
Language: English (essential), Spanish, French, Italian or German (desirable)

Location: Any country in the EU, with a strong preference for Spain, France, Italy, or Poland; or the US.
