About this Position

The North America Communications Officer, will play a critical role in advancing the mission and vision of the Laudato Si' Movement within their specific region. They will be responsible for supporting regional members and programs with effective communication strategies while aligning them with the global marketing and communication strategy.


The North America Communications Officer also closely collaborates with National, State, and local Communication Voluntaries (Chapters) or national coordinators (Secretariat), supporting them in developing and implementing regional strategies by sharing tips, ideas, and tools to achieve national goals.


Key Responsibilities

1. Regional Communication Support:
  • Work with the international communications team and the regional program manager to create a monthly plan for communications to achieve regional goals. 
  • Implement the monthly communications strategy plan.
    • Produce high-quality communications products, including blog posts, social media posts, emails, reports, publications, press releases, short videos, and others as needed.
    • Adhere to LSM’s branding guidelines and values. 
  • Assist the regional program leader with ad hoc communications needs. 
  • Collaborate closely with regional members and programs managers to understand their specific communication needs.
  • Provide guidance and support in crafting compelling and regionally relevant messages.
  • Manage regional social media accounts and other communication channels, like email.
  • Monitor and analyze communication performance metrics, making data-driven recommendations for improvements.

2. Alignment with Global Strategy:
  • Ensure that regional communication efforts are consistent with the global brand, message, and strategy.
  • Collaborate with the global communications team to effectively disseminate global campaigns, messages, and initiatives within the region.
  • Adapt global marketing materials and strategies to fit the local context and languages of the region.
  • Provide feedback and insights from the region to inform global strategy adjustments.
  • Identify and share regional/national stories with the global comms team to ensure the regions are well represented on the global strategies.

3. Collaboration and Reporting:
  • Work closely with both the global communications team and regional Movement Development teams to ensure effective communication and alignment.
  • Regularly report on regional communication activities, achievements, and challenges.
  • Share best practices and successful regional communication strategies with the global team and other regional communication officers.

Skills and Characteristics

  • Studies in communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in communications, marketing, or related roles, with a focus on regional Church.
  • Strong understanding of the regional cultural and linguistic nuances.
  • Familiarity with Catholic social teaching and Laudato Si' encyclical preferred.
  • Familiarity or knowledge about ecological issues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a global team structure.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms like Canva, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Spark, etc.

Languages: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (required) and Spanish or French (preferred).

Hours: 20 hours per week
